Prof Eric Foner - The Hidden History of the Underground Railroad

For tonight's Converations with Great Minds - Thom is joined by one of America's greatest living historians - Eric Foner. Currently the DeWitt Clinton Professor of History at Columbia University - Professor Foner is a leading authority on slavery - the Civil War - and Reconstruction. He's won the Bancroft Prize - the Lincoln Prize and the Pulitzer Prize - most recently for his 2011 book - "The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery” Professor Foner has also served as the President of the Organization of American Historians - President ofthe American Historical Association - and President of the Society of American Historians. His new book - "Gateway to Freedom: The Hidden History of the Underground Railroad" - is a fascinating look at the real story behind the fight against slavery.
